Healthy Eyes Diet
Looking after your eyes requires regular eye tests and check ups. A professional optician or optometrist can check your eyes not only to assess your vision, but also to look for any health problems. But eye check-ups are not the only way you can help to keep your eyes in good shape – you can also improve the condition of your eyes from the inside out.
By choosing to eat particular foods, your diet will contribute to keeping your eyes in tip-top shape.

Foods rich in Beta Carotene
When eaten in combination with zinc and Vitamins C and E beta-carotene may reduce the progression of macular degeneration. Examples of food containing beta-carotene include carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale and butternut squash
Bioflavonoids may protect against cataracts and macular degeneration. Food sources include tea, red wine, citrus fruits, blueberries, cherries, legumes and soy products.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin may prevent cataracts and macular degeneration. Food sources spinach, kale, turnip greens, collard greens squash
Omega -3 Fatty Acids Eye benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. May help prevent macular degeneration (AMD) and dry eyes.
Selenium carotenoids and vitamins C and E may reduce risk of advanced AMD
Vitamin A May protect against night blindness and dry eyes
Vitamin C May reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Food sources include sweet peppers, kale, strawberries, broccoli, oranges, cantalopue.
Vitamin D May reduce the risk of macular degeneration. Food sources include salmon, sardines, mackerel, milk and orange juice fortified with vitamin D.
Vitamin E When combined with carotenoids and vitamin C, it may reduce the risk of advanced AMD.
Zinc Helps vitamin A reduce the risk of night blindness and may play a role in reducing the risk of advanced AMD.
